Let 'em In

Paul McCartney wrote and sang,
"Someone's knockin' at the door,
Somebody's ringin' the bell
Do me a favor, Open the door, and let 'em in."

I'm thinking about this in terms of the American church cloistering in holy huddles behind stained glass windows.

Frankly, I don't care if one more freshly-showered Christian leaves their church and comes to mine. In fact, if they're coming expecting recognition or position, they're coming to the wrong place. Our focus is always going to be on Jesus and on getting people to him.

Truthfully, I would love to have a church full of people who are just knocking on the door but haven't fully stepped in. A man who can hardly stand and still smells from his Saturday night at the bar next door. The guy who can't stay awake because he spent the night on his computer trying to satisfy an emptiness. The woman who doesn't want to come in because she constantly hears voices saying she's no good. The mother who left her children overnight and can't tell you the name of the guy she woke with. The child who only hears screams and put downs all week.

Jesus is for them. Transformation House is for them.

Do me a favor, and let 'em in.
